Late in the 22nd century, an unprecedented and possibly unnatural exosolar signal is detected. Although inscrutable, it bears a strong resemblance to a series of paintings by a mute woman in Burkina Faso. A team of scientists are sent to the unusual place where she lives and works, in search of a solution to the mystery.
