If you are a leader administering diversity work with no training, no cultural awareness, or any historic (institutional) knowledge around politics and the organization's economics, then you can do a lot of damage promoting change without bringing along colleagues. To do this work, you must know how to connect with people without hurting them, how to lead people without crushing them, have a vision for who you want to be while knowing that you are constantly unlearning cultural norms and ideas while learning new things about yourself and others.
